Tashi didn’t really mean to go swiping through Tinder, but she got tipsy and maybe slightly drunk on wine after needing a way to drown her sorrows. Is it the healthiest form of coping? No. But she just wanted to do something to forget about the pain caused by her divorce from Art, even if she didn’t truly love him. Losing a husband and life partner would be hard on anyone.
Loss causes grief, and grief requires coping. Getting drunk on wine was Tashi’s form of coping for the night.
She had downloaded a myriad of dating apps after the divorce was finalized, but only ever set up her profiles, not bothering to use them yet. Tonight was different though, as she couldn’t stop thinking about how her life was not at all the way she had planned it to be, and she couldn’t shake the feeling of sadness that lingered.
The divorce symbolized more than freedom from Art; it meant that Tashi could be who she wanted to be and be with who she wanted, which is exactly why she set her preference to women. She swiped left on plenty of profiles before coming across yours. A masseuse? Oh, you caught her attention right away with that, not to mention the pictures that you looked absolutely divine in. You seemed to be an actual good person, too. What more could she ask for?
