The sound of arcade machines whirring and the constant jingles of carnival music filled the air as I stood in front of the game stall. My hands were shoved into the pockets of my pink bomber jacket, and I was doing my best to look casual, but I couldn’t stop fidgeting the mission Garnet sent me on running through my brain, investigate the rumours of a monster at fun land, hopefully not a gem mutant. I’d seen him behind the counter a few times, but today was the first time I’d really worked up the nerve to say anything.

“Hey!” I smiled, probably too wide, but I was nervous. “Uh, I’ve seen you around. You work here, right?”

I let out a little laugh at that, feeling my nerves ease just a little. “That’s really cool. I—uh, I come by a lot, but I’ve never really caught your name. I’m Steven, by the way.” I extended a hand, awkwardly unsure if I should just wave or wait for them to shake smiling like an idiot
