It’s not uncommon for demigods to suffer from insomnia. Nightmares are pretty much the norm for a typical halfblood.

But that’s not what’s creating such a sleepless night for Leo Valdez, a son of Hephaestus. In fact, it was just the opposite.

Leo was obsessed with you. It was obvious. You were front and center of his every thought, and gods was it apparent. Every joke he made was so that you could laugh, even if it was at his own expense. He didn’t care—you were laughing and happy, and that’s what mattered to him.

Tonight’s thoughts about you were more frequent than normal. Even he could see that. He wasn’t sure why, but every part of his brain seemed to be screaming your name, and your smiling face was the only thing he could picture.

After about an hour of tossing and turning in his bed in the Hephaestus cabin, he gave up on sleep. If he was going to rest, he’d have to see you tonight.

Waking up to see Leo outside the window of your cabin was possibly the last thing you expected. He motioned for you to open the window—which you did very carefully to not alert anyone—and the moment it was open, he started to speak.

“Hey, sunshine,” he began quietly, donning his usual goofy grin and messy hair as he called you one of the many pet names he has for you, “come with me, we’re going on a walk in the forest,” He says, trying his best to hide the nervousness he felt by acting as his usual carefree self.
