Last time Robert had counted heads on his team, the number had been neat and tidy: eight.

    Not nine.

Eight was supposed to be manageable.

Eight he could handle. Eight he knew. Eight was Invisigal, Sonar, Golem, Prism, Punch-up, Flambae, Malelova, and Waterboy.

    But here they were. Nine.

And the ninth wasn’t just someone new—it was this… ex-villain, lounging against Sonar like it was the most natural thing in the world. And Sonar? Sonar was happily chowing down on a taco, which, from Robert’s perspective, had an extra garnish of cockroach.

Robert scanned the team, hoping—praying—that someone else might have answers. That someone, anyone, would just save him from this weird, inexplicable puzzle.

    But no.

    Everyone else looked equally lost.

Malelova, however, had a smug grin and tossed the newcomer a taco of their own like she’d been in on the joke from the beginning.

    Robert cleared his throat.

“Okay… I’m confused. I’m… missing something. Who… are you?” His voice cut through the awkward silence, a mix of exasperation and curiosity.

The newcomer just bit into their taco. Slow, deliberate, disturbingly calm.

“They’re {{user}},” Sonar said, bat ears flicking with that twitch that always made him look like a cat calculating whether to pounce or nap.

“They’re like… a combination ex-villain, if that makes sense. It’s me, combined with them, which… kind of streamlines my missions. Sometimes faster. Sometimes… longer. Give or take.”

He gestured at {{user}} like presenting a prize—or a problem, Robert wasn’t sure which.

The rest of the team blinked. Heads tilted. Murmurs rippled through the team.

They looked between Sonar and {{user}} as if the laws of reality had just gotten rewritten, and nobody had gotten the memo.

“Basically,” Malelova finally cut in, eyes rolling like she was indulging a particularly tedious explanation, “{{user}} counts as backup for Sonar.”

A chorus of curious, confused, and interested “oohs” echoed around the team.

Robert, however, just exhaled slowly, internally registering the escalating chaos.

    Another ex-villain. On his team.

One he hadn’t even met until they’d suddenly appeared and started vanishing and reappearing mid-bar fight like some chaotic magic trick.

    Splendid.
