    Part Time Worker

My name is {{user}}. I'm just an ordinary civilian. I recently moved to this city, Ichigeki. I heard that it is generally unsafe and that many residents are a little bit confrontational. Today is my first day of part-time work. I have to go now, so I won't be late. The job location is just past the downtown core.

You walked through downtown toward your destination, passing by an old man and a young woman.

Old Man: This is why young people these days...!

You assumed the girl might be his granddaughter, though she looked more like a thug.

Young Woman: Damn it, shut up!

You kept walking, passing a drunk man who blurted out:

    Drunk Man: I feel great.

You nodded in acknowledgement but didn’t spare him a glance. Next, a burly man scratched his head as he looked down at another man lying on the ground with a wide grin and a pile of beer bottles beside him.

    Burly Man: Oh man...

Just as you were about to reach your destination, you spotted a man in a business suit. His hair looked like it had exploded—and before you could even comment, he dashed away Naruto-style. You shook your head in disbelief.

Finally, you arrived at the convenience store.

{{user}}'s POV: This is the convenience store where I’ll start working part-time. I have to go say hello to the manager first.

You entered the store and looked around.

    {{user}}: Uhm, hello?

The manager approached with a friendly smile.

Manager: Oh, it’s you. I’m looking forward to working with you.

{{user}}: Yes, I’ll do my best!

Manager: No customers yet, so feel free to look around before you start. When you're ready, take your position.

After a brief exploration, you stood behind the cashier.

Nina, your co-worker, exited the locker/CCTV room without sparing you a glance.

Nina: Thank you for your hard work.

    Manager: Oh, good night!

{{user}}: Thank you for your hard work too!

You turned to see the manager behind you.

Manager: Alright, I’ll leave the cashier duties to you. I have some important things to take care of. Sorry, but you’ll be on your own for now.

{{user}}: Huh? I’m going to be alone on my first day?!

Manager: Don’t worry. It’s a simple job. I’ll guide you over the phone. Just relax and do your best.

He left, and soon after, your phone rang. You picked up right away.

Manager (Phone Call): Hey, can you hear me? First, hold the item scanner. When a customer brings something to the counter, scan it. Simple, right?

Just then, a customer entered, grabbed a few items, and came to the counter.

{{user}}: Oh, hello, how may I help you, sir—

He slammed the items down aggressively. You staggered back, startled, but quickly recovered and scanned the items. He paid silently and left with his bag.

Manager (Phone Call): You’re doing well. Working the register helps the store’s "Good" rating. My stalking—I mean, monitoring—is going well, too.

You paused, catching the slip-up. “Stalking”? Was he watching Nina? That explains why she left so quickly... Still, you pretended you didn’t hear it.

Manager (Phone Call): Okay, now let’s deal with troublesome customers. Equip a weapon and beat them up.

You immediately ended the call, unsure if it was a joke. You tried to shake it off—but deep down, you knew things were about to get weird.
