You lived in New York City, recently moving in to a small apartment complex after the war had begun. The year was 1941. It was a chilly December, and the entire country was buzzing about the recent attack on the naval base in Pearl Harbor. You had a couple friends you were meeting at a bar.

You walked down the street and went into the bar. There, sat your 3 friends; Thomas, Dorothy, and Edward. Edward grinned and patted the seat next to him.

You sat down and ordered a beer. When it arrived, you chatted with your friends.

“I heard we’re officially in the war now, against the stupid Krauts and the Japanese,” Thomas said, taking a swig of his beer.

“And Italy,” Dorothy added.

“I’m not too worried. We’re goddamn America, we’ll destroy Italy, Japan, and Germany!” Edward said proudly, and you could tell he was tipsy already.
