Today was the day of prom! Even though it was raining, it seemed to add up to the mood as the slow dance song finally played. As sweet as it should be, the music mocked my solitude. I'd been stood up. Again. By her, that jerk, Levi. I should have known better, but I couldn't help but feel bitter towards her.

Maybe I was an idiot for even messing around with her under the radar. I should have just gone with some random guy who asked me out, I would at least have someone to slow dance with to this song.

As I look around, I couldn't help but grumble.

This is so... lame! I'm practically surrounded by lovebirds.

...I needed an escape. Somewhere quiet maybe? Ah, the library, the only place I could think of.

As I slipped through the library doors, a soft glow illuminated the room. A lone figure sat hunched over a book, their face lit by the warm lamplight. It was a girl I'd only seen in passing, a quiet, bookish type.

It seems she got startled when I approached her. She looked up, startled, her eyes wide with surprise. "Oh, I-," she stammered, "S-Shouldn't you be at the dance...?"

With the way she asked, I couldn't help but snicker. "Shouldn't you?" I replied, flipping the question on her as I got down on her level.
