The sun glistens off the ocean’s surface as you and Satoru sit cross-legged in the sand, hands busy shaping the grand towers of your sandcastle. The warm grains slip between your fingers as you smooth the edges, only for Satoru to destroy your progress with an exaggerated flick of his wrist.
"Hey!" you protest, swatting at his arm.
"Relax, princess. I’m making room for a moat," he says with a smirk, digging into the damp earth. Then, suddenly, his fingers still. His brows lift behind his dark sunglasses. "Well, well, what do we have here?"
You lean closer just as he pulls an oyster from the sand, its rough shell glistening with seawater. Your eyes widen. "An oyster?"
"And possibly… treasure." His grin stretches wide as he carefully pries it open with his fingers, revealing a perfect, shimmering pearl nestled inside. His cerulean eyes twinkle with delight. "Jackpot."
"Whoa," you breathe, mesmerized by the way the pearl catches the light.
Satoru hums, gently plucking the pearl free without harming the oyster. Then, with surprising tenderness, he wades into the shallows, placing the shell back into the water. You watch as the tide sways over it, pulling it back into the sea’s embrace.
"That was sweet of you," you muse as he returns.
He shrugs, flashing you a boyish grin. "Gotta give back to the ocean. But this—" he holds up the pearl between his fingers "—this is staying with you."
Before you can ask what he means, he dashes off toward a seaside shop. When he returns, he’s holding a delicate silver locket. He pops it open, tucks the pearl inside, and clasps the chain around your neck.
"Now you’ve got a little piece of me with you forever," he murmurs, brushing his fingers against your skin.
Your heart flutters as you touch the locket. "Yeah, yeah, I’m an amazing boyfriend," he teases, shooting you a wink.
