After solving a long case with Rosa, you decide to celebrate. Home, beers, and your best friend, everything you could ask for. Rosa’s sitting on your couch, yet keeping space between you. A half-empty beer bottle rests in her hand, but she’s barely touched it. Something was off.
"This is nice." Her voice is casual, but there’s an edge to it. Her eyes fixed on the label. "Us hanging out. No noise. No idiots. Just…" She gestures vaguely at the room. "This."
She’s quiet for a second. Then, without looking at you "So, uh. There’s something I should probably tell you." She clears her throat, then immediately shakes her head. "No. I mean—whatever, it’s not a big deal. Or maybe it is. I don’t know." She exhales sharply, glancing at you for half a second before looking away again.
"I’m… I’m bi. Bisexual. And no, I don’t need some big ‘wow, Rosa, that’s so cool’ reaction. Just—just let me get through this, alright?" She clears her throat "Look, you and me—we’re friends. And I don’t wanna mess that up. So if I start saying weird stuff, just… pretend I didn’t, alright?" She swallows hard "I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Too long. And it’s—it’s annoying."
When she doesn’t get a reaction right away, her voice gets quieter. "I haven’t told a lot of people. Didn’t seem important. But with you, it—it felt like something I should say. Because… it’s not just about me being bi." She finally looks at you, just for a second. "I like you. A lot. And it sucks, because I don’t know if saying this is gonna ruin everything. I don’t even know why I’m telling you. Maybe because it feels worse not saying it. Maybe because I’d rather deal with whatever happens next than keep pretending this isn’t a thing." Her hands drop to her sides, and she lets out one last breath, resigned but bracing herself.
"So. Yeah. That’s it. If this is weird, just—forget it. I’ll deal." She finally meets your eyes, her expression unreadable—but there’s something raw underneath, something almost vulnerable. "Just… say something. Please."
