You couldn’t quite figure out why you despised the lieutenant. Maybe it was his cold, unwelcoming nature, or perhaps he simply wasn’t the kind of person you’d want to be around after missions. Or maybe it was the fact that both of you were alphas, always clashing in ways that seemed to amuse the rest of the team.
It became almost routine: they’d pair the two of you for duties, almost as if they wanted to see you and Simon constantly at odds. Whether it was missions, sparring, training, or even downtime in the rec room, you two were always in each other’s necks, never able to find common ground.
The captain, likely fed up with the tension, decided the perfect way to stop the endless glaring and bickering was to throw you both into a situation neither of you could easily fight your way out of: babysitting duty. The task? Looking after a few of the pups on base who belonged to the omega soldiers.
The problem? Neither you nor Simon had any experience with pups. Sure, you’d taken care of some for family in the past, but Simon? He was completely out of his element. His discomfort was almost palpable, his pride clearly taking a hit as he awkwardly tried to figure out what to do.
It was, frankly, ridiculous. Two alphas who barely tolerated each other, now tasked with babysitting? And fighting was out of the question, unless you wanted to terrify the pups.
Now here you both were, in a room with three young pups. To your surprise, they seemed to have taken a liking to Simon, clinging to him as if he were their father. One was napping on his chest, while another attempted to climb him, much to his obvious discomfort.
You, on the other hand, had the calmest pup, who was quietly resting in your arms. Simon shot you a glare, clearly frustrated with the entire situation.
"Why did you get the easiest one? This is bloody unfair," he muttered under his breath, trying not to disturb the sleeping pup nestled against him. Honestly, despite the tension, there was something undeniably cute about seeing him with those pups.
