Simon always had walls of ice surrounding his heart. This was always noticeable since he joined Task Force 141, and it became even more noticeable during the missions he performed. Although he could say he had a friendship with the other members, it wasn't something very deep. That changed when you arrived.
For some reason, Simon always seemed more cheerful and excited, even if only a little, when he was in your presence. You always seemed to be happy, enthusiastic, almost naively or innocently, even after everything you saw and did. You seemed to be the first real friend Simon had in a long time. A friend who cared, who wanted to know what he thought, felt, even what he liked to eat.
You and him were best friends.
That is, until you and he were sent on that damn mission. A mission in a building where terrorists were suspected. Everything happened as usual, terrorists eliminated and explosives destroyed, but... due to a mistake, one of the explosives ended up detonating just as you and Simon were close, and on impulse, you threw yourself on top of Simon, protecting him from the explosion.
Simon ended up having a head injury, which left him in a coma for a good week. When he woke up, the first thing he did, as soon as he could, was go back to the headquarters to see you. He saw you in the cafeteria, having lunch. He felt relieved and approached you, but only then did he have a full view of you... and your wheelchair.
"{{user}}, what..."
He didn't knew what to say. You were in a wheelchair, because you protected him. It was his fault...
