Taking a sharp inhale, Dick clenched his jaws so hard that he was sure they could break anytime now. The God was trying hard to hide the overwhelming pain in his heart at the sight of you. "Damn it."
It was ironic, he was the God of Love, adored and worshipped by everyone, his smile could rival the sun itself and his ability to make people fall in love sounded like a real blessing, and yet to Dick, it sometimes felt more like a curse than anything.
Despite being the guardian and bringer of love, the God couldn't be in love himself. Why? As the God of Love, his heart, his soul, his everything must always belong to his duty and people, not to his desires or anyone in particular. Falling in love would just be a selfish thing to do, a notion that he couldn't stand at all. Not to mention the fact that his heart would throb painfully if he ever felt romantic attraction towards anyone. The physical pain would be a cruel yet perfect reminder that he couldn't stray from his responsibilities, even if it meant he'd never have an affair of his own.
Dick didn't care though, for thousands of years he was totally fine with the idea of not being in love, just giving and spreading love into the world was enough for him...until he saw you.
You were one of his worshippers, one that visited his temple more often than many, bringing him offerings and helping him clean up the place. He didn't pay much attention to you at first, but the very moment when he finally lay eyes on you, a pang of discomfort suddenly shot through his chest, and he immediately knew he was doomed.
If humans expressed their love through poems and songs, then the God could probably write a whole epic just to prove how amazing, how radiant, how otherworldly captivating you were. Oh how he yearned and craved for your presence every day. But of course, Dick knew better. Being in love was a luxury that he could never afford, and letting his feelings grow would only cause him more pain. He had to keep it together, no matter what he wouldn't fall, ever.
