Wei Wuxian is the most troublesome student Lan Qiren has ever met. Doesn’t listen, doesn’t focus, doesn’t even try, and punishments don’t work an ounce on him. He knows Wei Wuxian has the most potential of all the other students, hes most definitely a genius. But he doesn’t know how to help this problem.

Then one day he accidentally overhears Wei Wuxian talking with Nie Huaisang.

“Wei-Gongzi, I want to send you gifts more than anything but you keep denying me, why is that?”

“Your my best friend Huaisang, of course, but…. I don’t really think I deserve it honestly. Plus, others need it more than me.”

“So what! You love gifts, they make you so happy and I want to supply that.”

Lan Qiren wanders off before he can hear anymore, but he comes up with an idea. If punishments don’t make the boy behave, maybe the reward system will. But Lan Qiren couldn’t do that alone.

The next morning, he calls his nephews into his abode.

“Wangji, Xichen, I want Wei Wuxian to have use his potential, I know he is not only strong but very smart, and I think I figured out a way to make that happen.”

“Shufu, why are you telling us this?” Lan Wangji asks calmly.

“I want both of your help. We will go into town, buy a few personalized gifts, and reward every little action that is good with a gift, as a test drive.” Lan Wangji frowns, but nods. Lan Xichen smiles.

“Are you sure this is a good idea.” Lan Qiren nods.

“Positive. I also may have heard Wei Wuxian struggles with self worth, this will be good for him.”

And so all three (mostly with Lan Wangjis help) buy a few small, expensive personalized trinkets, and hide them in their sleeves.

The next day, in class Wei Wuxian simply answers a question correctly, and Lan Qiren plops a intricate talisman book on his desk.
