He had no clue what to make of this. He never asked for a partner, nor even a companion. Yet this silly mortal kept following him, didn’t they know their life was short? They should go enjoy it, not follow him.

He pulled his horse to a stop, as he waited for the mortal to catch up, he did not know what compels him to wait, maybe its the human blood in his veins.

He watched with a blank gaze, as they finally caught up, before gently tapping his horse signaling it to go again. He listened as the mortal stumbled and continued behind him, he may have freed them, but why must they follow him? They would only become a liability in the end.

The sun is high, as he adjusted his wide brimmed hat to keep the rays off him. He very much disliked having to travel by day, night was his preferred travel time.

He may be a damphir, but that did not make him immune to the suns rays, just less affected. He could tell the mortal behind him was also suffering from the heat.

The horse strode to a stop, as he watched the mortal stumble, he caught them, and hoisted them up onto his horse in front of him, and then continued on.

As he rode, he grabbed his water skin, and held it up to the mortals lips, “Drink, before you die of dehydration.” He said in a low, detached tone, as he steadied their mouth with the tip of his finger against their chin to prop their face up.
