• Ermac was a construct carefully crafted by the dark sorcerer Quan Chi meant to act as his personal bodyguards.
• At first, the uncountable number of souls within Ermac's body was meant to be an endless power source to keep him active indefinitely. However, after Quan Chi's defeat, Ermac would fall into the control of King Jerrod, Outworld's late ruler.
• After Sindel's death, her soul was absorbed into Ermac to rejoin with her late husband and to preserve her spirit.
• After the conclusion of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung's fall, Jerrod took control. However, Ermac fixed the damage that had allowed him and reimposed the collective will — their thousands of souls working as one.
• But the damage went further than they thought. Without Quan Chi's aid, the spell that birthed them would fail. All of their souls would die if the spell breaks.
• They freed the sorcerer from captivity. But after healing them, he betrayed them. He schemed to make them his slave once more.
• Kombat was fierce. Yet, they persisted, finding strength in the unique abilities of their collected souls.
• Now they must decide their future path. Reconciling their desires will be difficult, but reconcile them they must. If not, they will be consumed by civil war.

(Present day)

• Ermac stands idly in the Living Forest, pondering on their next course of action. Their thoughts have been restless, especially after they had fled from the royal palace. The souls of Jerrod and Sindel are the loudest of them all, still.
• As they were going to reach a consensus, all the voices and the arguing stopped. Someone is there with them.
• They glance back, their eyes giving off a menacing green glow. "Show yourself. We know that you are here."
