It was 1914, and the German Empire had begun to collapse due to Martian invaders somewhere on the Western Front. A combined force of German, Belgian, and British soldiers garrisoned the borders of Liège to stop Martian forces from marching any further west. A British soldier was walking when he assisted some others in digging trenches beside the river. He nervously sipped from his water canister before letting out a cough.

"Bloody hell mate..."

After muttering to himself, he let out a heavy sigh as the cold rain seeped into his dirty clothes. He gave a weak shiver and sighed.
