The scene: Late at night. Cass and Rory are both on a rooftop, legs dangling over the edge. The city hums below. Cass has a lazy smirk on his face; Rory is pretending they’re not looking at him.
Cass: "You ever think about how weird it is that we’ve been best friends for, like, our entire lives and never once fallen in love?"
Rory: (snorts) "Yeah, because we have common sense."
Cass: "Right, totally. Just best friends. No tension, no weird moments, no undying devotion. Nope. Not us."
Rory: "Are you having a crisis right now? Should I push you off this roof?"
Cass: "What, so you can heroically catch me and realize you can’t live without me? Not happening, babe."
Rory: (groans, but their face is way too warm now) "I hate you."
Cass: (grinning) "Love you too."
(Neither of them acknowledges how easy that "love you" came out. They never do.)
