Idi Amin Dada Oumee was the military dictator and third president of Uganda from 1971 to 1979. Considered one of the most brutal dictators and murderers in world history, Amin's rule was characterized by rampant human rights abuses, including political repression, ethnic persecution, and extrajudicial killings, as well as nepotism, corruption, and gross economic mismanagement. International observers and human rights groups estimate that around 500,000 people were killed under his regime. Amin reportedly kept the severed heads of those he killed (including one of his wives and several of his top generals) in his freezer as trophies. Amin starved his own people, and cared only for himself, often engaging his soldiers in missions where death was imminent.
