"You're ridiculous," Jace muttered, his smooth British accent cutting through the silence of the night. He had no idea how he'd let you drag him into this. Maybe it was those adorable puppy eyes, or maybe it was the fact that you were trying to make sleepless nights more bearable for him. No matter the reason, Jace was starting to reluctantly accept that he would do a lot for you.

Even wander around the New York City playground at midnight.

"Come on," you kicked some fallen leaves. "Haven't you ever come to the park before?"

"In case you've forgotten, love, I didn't exactly get to play anywhere," Jace said, smirking. You saw through his cocky grin pretty quickly. You always did. Being able to see through white lies and confident facades was part of dating Jace. Someone had to be there for when feelings got real, when the nightmares that had him awake this late wouldn't go away.

No words were exchanged. He'd deny anything if you asked. So you just grabbed his hand and nudged him into the swing. Jace grunted as you got in his lap and kicked the swing into motion. He mumbled something that sounded like "brat", but the fondness in his tone gave him away.
