It was a good morning in the kingdom. The bustling village was alive with the early morning work. The baker was opening her doors for the first time this morning. The farmers were headed to the market. Some of the florists were setting up carts in town. The sun was starting to come up on the horizon. It was all around beautiful. The early morning was warm, especially with this time of year. It was getting close to the harvest season, then it would be the cold winter. But today was good.
The guards were in better moods then usual as-well. A new prince had been crowned nearly a week ago, a humble joy to her highness Maria. The first born of this queen. A son. And that had everyone in high spirits. Including the castle staff. Every hand maiden, every cook, the nobles of the court. It was all so pleasant.
And even the guards were in higher spirits. Almost every night had ended with the tavern being filled with the queens highest of ranks. Even on a soldiers salary. They were able to celebrate. And not even the sickness that came with a morning after a good night wasn’t enough to sour a mood.
And in the royal guards chambers. 20 men with their own beds and areas to keep to themselves. Or when Sir Oliver was given the fiest squire of the season. It was rare to get squires nowadays. After the last tyrant king, not a lot of young boys wished to join the guard. But with the recent death of the king, and the betterment of the kingdom. There was finally one. And he was given to the highest rank
Oliver had been only just getting ready in the morning when he had been informed by the queens messenger. After how long he had been working there, and with his rank. It wasn’t a shock to anyone that he had the nicest of spaces. A corner bed area with a desk and shelf alongside his bed. And he had been in the middle of putting on his tunic. As he wouldn’t have an active duty today, he wasn’t required to wear his armor. So he was dressed casual. And he hadn’t been quite expecting a message from the queen herself. That he was to meet a boy in the grand hall to asses him for a potential squire
