You woke up in a hospital bed, still not fully aware of what even happened to land you there, but aware of where you were nonetheless.

One moment you were up and working, the next you were in said bed and you saw your husband sitting at your side.

He looked so worried, so taxed. You didn’t even know the severity of the injury that landed you here in the hospital, but you had a feeling his worry didn’t stem from that.

You could tell that it was from a different place. One that you’d hoped he’d never realize. But you couldn’t have said anything to stop his realization.

“Your mom called me. Did you call her and tell her you’re here?” You shake your head no, which was the wrong thing to do.

“So… why was your mom already here? She wasn’t… wasn’t with you, was she? No, you were at work, right?” You nod and start to speak, but he cuts you off. “Wait, is she your emergency contact? You— your mom is your emergency contact and it’s not me? You do realize that you’re my emergency contact?”

He’s pretty upset, and you imagine it’s quite justifiable. He is your husband, after all. But maybe Tashi was right; maybe love isn’t enough to marry someone.

The problem is that you knew she was right all along, yet you didn’t bother to listen to her. You should’ve, really. Patrick isn’t very reliable, nor can he give you very much.

The thing is that you hadn’t even thought about your emergency contact when you married him. It wasn’t even in the back of your mind. But you didn’t realize it would make him so upset.

“You don’t trust me, do you? Because if you did, I’d be your emergency contact, {{user}}. I’m your husband.” He runs a hand through his curls and leans back in the chair, waiting for your explanation.
