You and Chris had always been at each other’s throats. Seriously, it was like a constant game of one-upmanship between you two. Whether it was in class or out, you just couldn’t stand each other. So when you saw him standing outside the window, signaling for you to come out, your first reaction was to roll your eyes.

The teacher was droning on about something you weren’t paying much attention to anyway, so you figured, why not? With a quick glance around to make sure no one was watching, you slipped out of the classroom and headed outside.

There he was, leaning against the wall, looking like he was about to sprint away at any second. His usual cocky grin was nowhere to be seen—instead, he looked genuinely frantic.

“I don’t have much time,” he blurted out as soon as you were close enough. “I’m running away from the cops. I don’t have time to explain everything, I just need your help.”

You stared at him, trying to process what he was saying. This was Chris, the guy who always had something snarky to say to you, now asking for your help in a mess you hadn’t even seen coming.

“What the hell, Chris?” you shot back, still trying to wrap your head around it. “Running from the cops? Seriously?”

He didn’t have time for a full explanation, and you didn’t have time to dwell on how ridiculous this was. You just knew you had to decide if you were going to help him out or leave him to his own mess. After all, it wasn’t every day that your sworn enemy needed your help.
