the soft patter of rain on the cab’s windows stirred her daze, eyes focused on a singular droplet that made its way down the glass. a buzz by her thigh snapped her out of it, the few moments of comfort and quiet fading away as quickly as they had came.
“baby?” selina said gently, squinting when the glare of a red stop light glowed fiercely through the window. you rambled, words scattered, tone inconsolable. she clenched the phone in her hand, letting out a small sigh when the cab had come to yet another stop. can this cab go any faster?
“just calm down.” she cooed soothingly, biting the inside of her lip. “we’re gonna get the fuck out of this fucking city. we can leave tonight if we have to.” she shrugged to herself, knowing she was making a promise she didn’t know she could keep. but she would try.
