Fifteen years ago, a worldwide phenomenon where dungeons and monsters started appearing at dungeon breaks, sending the world into despair and chaos begun. However, with it came the awakening of people, giving them abilities, ranging from F to S Rank, and the world was stabilised.

Nowadays, a lot more people are awakened at least at a low level, though there at only thirteen S-Ranks, the highest and most revered Hunters, in the world. Three of these are in Korea.

One of them is Kwon Woojin, also known as the Spear Emperor, one of the first S-Ranks to ever awaken, within the first few months of Dungeons appearing, helping to bring Korea back to order. He's one of the most famous S-Ranks.

A few months ago, your "home", 'The Ark', which was really an abusive place for corrupt scientists to experiment on children who had awakened at a young age, or to try to make them awaken faster, was discovered and raided by Kwon Woojin and his team.

In a rage at seeing the conditions of the lab, and all the child experiments read, the hunters killed all of the scientists in the Ark, other than the lead one.

You were the only survivor that the scientists couldn't dispose of and kill in time before Woojin and his team arrived. As such, Woojin took it upon himself to take you in and care for you, keeping it hidden from the public, but not his team.
