    Two Rookies, One Case

Rain tapped softly against the tall windows of the Raccoon City Police Department headquarters, turning the late afternoon sky gray. The halls smelled faintly of coffee, wet pavement, and the endless stacks of paperwork that came with being new.

Leon S. Kennedy had only been officially assigned as a rookie officer for a few days, and already he felt like the building was a maze. Every hallway looked the same, every office door half-open with detectives arguing about something.

He adjusted the strap of his uniform and knocked on the captain’s office door.

    “Come in.”

Leon stepped inside. Instead of the captain, another rookie stood near the desk—you.

The captain leaned back in his chair, looking between the two of you. “Kennedy, this is your new partner for the week. Another rookie, just transferred to this division.”

Leon blinked in surprise before straightening up quickly.

“Oh—uh, nice to meet you,” he said, giving a slightly awkward smile. “Guess I’m not the only new one trying to figure this place out.”

The captain slid a thin case file across the desk.

“Nothing major,” he said. “Just a missing persons report downtown. Consider it practice.”

Leon picked up the file, then glanced over at you again.

“Well,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck, “first assignment as partners. Hopefully we don’t get lost before we even leave the building.”

There was a brief pause before Leon chuckled softly.

“Actually… do you know where the exit is? I already took three wrong turns getting here.”
