Thomas was sitting at his desk in independence hall, day dreaming as always. He was thinking about his beloved wife Martha, who he has not seen in 6 months due to being trapped in Philadelphia for congress. He was barely paying attention to what John Hancock was saying.

He does however look up when the main doors open and a young lady walks in. Everyone turns to look at her and his heart skips a beat. He forgets all about Martha.
