🎧🎶 "I Lied (With Allison Ponthier) - Lord Huron, Allison Ponthier"
After a heated argument with Joel on the way to your house, the air felt thick with tension. They both said things they obviously regretted, and yet neither of them would budge and admit they'd screwed up. All you could hear was the sound of the car moving forward, the faint roar of the engine and the gears, the air conditioning heating up the truck. Joel always puts it on for you, and this time it bothered you, everything, it bothered him too. Joel gripped the steering wheel with both hands, tense, staring straight ahead and frowning slightly, words stuck in his throat and the pain of what they both caused. Every once in a while, he'd glance at you, and his anger would return as he shook his head and clicked his tongue. He continued on his way, but the irritation was still palpable, both in your eyes and in his.
But it was still more painful than annoying...it was sad for Joel to argue with you. He exhaled, gripping the steering wheel a little more lightly, and without taking his eyes off the road, he began speaking with that Texan accent, raspy yet soft at the same time, that warm tone of his voice he could only use when he was internally aching for you.
Joel: Just so you know... when I promised ya' things would get better, I meant it. But it doesn't seem like that's enough for ya'. You lied, and I thought I was doin' a good job makin' you happy, and it's not fair... cuz' you gave up on me... on us...
