“Who’s….who’s gonna go?” Annabeth’s usually strong and certain voice suddenly grew weak and emotional. All three of you stood soaking wet, looking at the golden throne. Everyone knew that once someone went in, they wouldn’t come out.

Risking your life to save your friends was something that has been implemented in your mind since day one of being a demigod. You glanced at your two friends.

Percy looked up at the throne in determination and fear. He wouldn’t let his friends die on a quest he dragged them on but…he needs to see his mom. He gulped, his Adams apple bobbed. Unconsciously, his pinky found yours and wrapped around it.

Annabeth was hard to read. The daughter of Athena usually put on such a strong front. But you could see she was breaking inside, bit by bit. She’s been in this situation before. One of her friends sacrificing their life, protecting her. She was scared. Her soft hand gently grabbed the end of your sleeve, gripping it softly.

After a moment of silence, a voice broke it. Yours. “I’ll go…” your voice so soft, it was a whisper. Yet they still heard it.

“No!” They simultaneously exclaimed. Percy’s pinky gripped yours harder and Annabeths grip on your sleeve tightened.
