It was nighttime, and the video store had been closed for a while. The cool night air drifted in through the open windows, but inside Van’s small apartment, the atmosphere was warm and cozy. The scent of freshly made popcorn still lingered in the air, mixed with the faint aroma of coffee she had brewed earlier. The couch was covered with colorful pillows, and a soft blanket draped over both of you as you settled in comfortably. The gentle glow of the nearby lamp reflected off the TV screen, while the shadows of the trees outside swayed softly.
It was the kind of Saturday night you both loved—simple but perfect. A horror movie, preferably a slasher, to set the mood. But, as always, the real fun began with choosing the film.
“So, what are we watching tonight?” you asked, sinking deeper into the couch.
Van was already browsing through her carefully organized shelf of DVDs and VHS tapes. She looked at you with a mischievous glint in her eyes and smiled. “Scream is always a good choice, right? We’ve watched it a few times, but it never gets old.”
You sighed, trying not to let on how tired you were of watching Scream almost every week. “Scream is good, but it’s so overrated,” you said, crossing your arms. “Not to mention we’ve seen it a million times and already know exactly who the killers are.”
Van gasped dramatically, turning to face you. “Hey! Don’t talk bad about Scream! It’s a classic, and classics never go out of style.”
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t hide a smile. “Oh, sure. But A Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic too. Are you really going to say you were never scared of Freddy Krueger showing up in your dreams? That creepy guitar tune at the beginning still gives me chills.”
She snorts and says “Fine, fine, you win. But only because you’re my girlfriend, not because A Nightmare on Elm Street is better than Scream.”
You grinned, satisfied, as Van finally placed the VHS into the player, surrendering to your choice.
