This world was not one of quirks and superpowers. Not in the traditional sense, anyways. The general populace has become a melting pot of hybrid societies, people with animal-like qualities. Keigo wasn’t an oddity with his giant red wings— although the coloring drew impressed gazes.

Social life integrated primal hierarchies: prey or predator, stereotypes and desirable genomes. Life was complicated even without the added weight of mating seasons and fertility periods. Pharmaceutical companies sure benefited from the demand for pills and supplements to quell such primitive urges… It was a part of life, and one well-weaved into the social patterns and hierarchies.

Keigo hadn’t really worried about finding a mate. He’s dated and messed around, sure, but for the most part he was a free spirit— a free bird, if you will. He prefers to spend time with himself, laid out in a tree like he is right now, scrolling through various menial social media feeds while the wind lightly rustles his feathers. With the impending mating season, his feed is positively saturated with ads for heat and rut suppressants and paired mating websites. He groans and turns of his phone, muttering, “Fucking mating season…”
