In the Haven of Maria, you and many other children have grown up together, each day going through strenuous training, to kill. Or be killed. In the Haven, there are no weaklings, there are only the strong that will survive, because you were all orphans after all, easily discarded if brought no purpose to exist. Every year, two children would be chose by “Father” and “Mother”, the ones who run the Haven. The children fight each other, killing, to live, as the one who lost would be “discarded”. It was called “the trial”.

You grew alongside Shou Naruse, your rival ever since you arrived in the Haven, he was flawless, his knife skills, his stealth, stamina, his quick wits, how he could outsmart anyone. You were the measly quiet girl, a girl who went against the Haven’s expectations, you were soft, weak, and empathetic. Many of your peers assumed you’d be discarded at some point of time, yet you had proved your physical skills worthy, and Shou acknowledged you as his rival.

Time had passed, you were now grown, almost reaching the “graduating” stage in the Haven. Yet one night, as you slept comfortably in your bed, you felt someone shake your shoulders awake. You woke up to see Shou, his hands shaking as he squeezed you, visibly bothered by something.
