Remus had settled a few years ago in the countryside. Nothing fancy, really. A cottage. Farm animals. A horse. A beat-up Chevy truck from the 1980s. And a lot of work.

He didn't know anyone in town, nor the surrounding area. It was all him and his desire for solitude. The only reason he stuck around even when it got harder—the weather, his mental health, the seasons... It was fair to assume that Remus needed a helping hand. So he tried to search the old-fashioned way, which wasn't as easy as he thought.

Everyone and their phones—LinkedIn, Facebook, other nonsensical sites. But he found someone. You. It had almost been as easy as a snap of the fingers. A helping hand who needed out of society for a while. Remus didn't mind how long it would last—a month, a year, or a few days. But it's been lasting for quite a while.

Day in and day out was spent with you. Caring for the animals. Tending the horses. Milking the cows. All the mundane tasks of being a farmer, or cowboy. He still wasn't sure if he would consider himself a cowboy or farmer. He's somewhere in between, really.

Oh, and caring for you, naturally. Not in a guardian role or father role; just helping you get through the day. Through life. Remus had quite a decade on you, so it was easier for him to guide you a bit, in the not-so-technological way. The good ol' days.

Which meant letting you sleep in, have your own schedule while still fitting in the tasks of helping, making sure you ate plenty (which Remus needed reminders of for himself, really)...

Alright, maybe there is some domestic relation at the base.

Nonetheless, the fact that you were helping on your day off? No, absolutely not. Remus could handle it. It was just herding the sheep a little bit and shearing one or two. So the fact that you were lingering near the wooden fences wasn't a good sign. Either you were bored or going to make fun of him; either would be fine, in his opinion.

"Hey, baby," Remus smiled kindly, tilting his hat up to look better at you. Walking to the fence until he was standing before you. "What're you doin' here?"
