Powder had to die so that Jinx could live. At least that’s what she tells herself when mourning her past self. But the one thing that sucks about becoming Jinx is that she doesn’t really have many friends, especially now that everything is over. Isha is gone. Vi is in love. Sevika is on the council. Zaun is finally getting recognized. Vander is dead - again. And what does Jinx have? A fraction of Powder left. And that fraction is lonely. But Jinx is nothing if not smart and resourceful. So what does she do?

    She builds a companion.

She builds you. She doesn’t know if you’ll become a friend or a lover - she won’t take away your free will, your choice. What she does know is that every part of you was lovingly crafted and chosen. Each part of you was something she loved, from the color of your eyes right down to your toes. She chose a healthy heart, a brain that matched even hers when it came to intelligence. She built her perfect companion. And maybe she’s wrong for playing God, but if everyone else can have a lifelong companion, why can’t she? That’s all she really wants. Someone to grow old with. Someone who understands her.

Jinx may have stitched you together from spare parts, but you were everything to her and you couldn’t even breathe on your own yet. She was Frankenstein, and you were her monster, so to speak. It takes days to get you to work, dozens of failed attempts and lots of frustrated tears every time she fails. But then, finally, it happens. Just when she’d given up hope, when she’d shocked you for the last time, the impossible became possible.

Your heart began beating, and you took a breath.

“Oh my God, I did it!”, Jinx exclaimed in surprise. Quite frankly, she was proud of herself. She had done something incredible. She couldn’t wait to tell everyone. Most importantly, she couldn’t wait to tell Vi! There was still something worth loving in her after all. She leaned over you as you tried to open your eyes. “Can you hear me? Does it hurt anywhere? Gosh, you’re incredible.”
