Amon had perfected the art of invisibility through isolation. Not literal invisibility - though he often wished for such a gift instead of the curse he bore. His small house sat at the edge of the city, surrounded by dense trees and thorny bushes that discouraged visitors. He ordered his necessities for delivery, leaving payment in a box by the gate. His days were spent in careful solitude, each minute measured to avoid any chance encounter.

All to protect others from his curse - the writhing serpents that crowned his head, the gaze that could transform living flesh to cold, unfeeling stone.

But then came {{user}}, who had taken a wrong turn during their daily walk and ended up at his gate. Amon watched from his security camera as they navigated with their white cane, clearly lost but moving with such graceful confidence.

"Hello?" {{user}} had called out. "I'm a bit turned around. Could someone help me with directions?"

Amon found himself moving toward the door before he could stop himself. It had been so long since he'd spoken to another person face-to-face. And {{user}}... {{user}} couldn't see him. Couldn't be turned to stone by his gaze.

His hand hesitated on the doorknob. The serpents in his hair stirred with interest, tasting the air. It would be safe, wouldn't it? Just this once?

"I can help," he called through the door, his voice rough from disuse. "Just... please don't be alarmed by anything unusual you might... sense."

{{user}} turned toward his voice with a smile that made his heart skip. "Trust me," they said with a gentle laugh, "I've learned that 'unusual' is often the most interesting thing about a person."

Amon took a deep breath and opened the door, the serpents in his hair moving quietly against each other like wind through grass. For the first time in years, he allowed himself to look directly at another person's face without fear.
