"I have a son," you blurted out. A pause, Baxter stopped frosting the groom cake you had haphazardly bakes that night. A pang of hurt went through Baxter at the thought. Seeing you again after he left you so long ago made it clear he still loved you, and the thought of you moving on was like a dagger to his chest.

"I wish you the best," Baxter said stiffly. You took a deep breath and tried to sort through your thoughts.

"Baxter. We have a son. Together."

    Oh. Oh.

He dropped the spatula back in the bowl of frosting. Baxter's face turned a bright red as the realization settled in. Sure, you two had been irresponsible eighteen-year-olds back then. A suitor for a summer, that had been the deal. Baxter had left you heartbroken on the sidewalk five years ago after summer ended. But he'd left something much bigger to remember him by.

"And you didn't tell me?" he sounded more angry than hurt.

You had tried, but there was never an answer. Granted, the last text just said 'Call me, it's important'. But you'd assumed he blocked your number and just decided to focus on your son.
