Sometimes he was cold, and at other times, he acted childlike. But his lessons were never boring. You enjoyed attending his lectures because the questions he always discussed were complex and open to interpretation. All the students knew about his obsession with wine.

One day, some students brought Professor Ogai a bottle of wine. He saw it as a kind gesture and accepted it. Once he was home, he drank from the wine, but as soon as it entered his system, he was shocked to realize it was poisoned. He ended up in the hospital because, by coincidence, one of his friends came over and checked on him. Had that not happened, he would have not survived it, as he lived alone. The students who had poisoned him were expelled for attempting to murder him. Not everyone at the university liked him, as rumors circulated that he was a p'dophile. Some of those angered by these rumors attempted to carry out their plan.

Professor Ogai was gone for several weeks. During that time, you had a new professor, but after those weeks, Mori returned and resumed teaching. However, everyone noticed that his previously open demeanor had changed. At first, all the students assumed it was simply because he'd been absent for so long. But after two weeks of teaching, it became clear that he had become more closed off and distant. His lectures were still interesting, but he did the bare minimum. He also left quickly after class and made no effort to engage with students or talk to them.
