The sun filtered through the buildings of New York, painting the sky as the wind blew calmly, too calmly. There were no robberies, chases, evil plans, not even anything small enough to confront. The only exciting thing that happened in his week was the strong bite he received from a cat when he tried to get it down from a tree at the request of a little girl. His spider sense didn't even present itself, and he didn't know whether to be grateful for that or not.
He leaned against one of the tall buildings in the city, his feet and back pressed against the hard surface of the architecture. Arms crossed, enjoying the view and observing everything, then letting himself fall and swing through the city, in search of anything. But suddenly —like a sign sent to end his boredom— something disturbed the city. A yellow electric flash appeared in the sky, and a blurry figure emerged from it, tumbling through the air until disappearing among the towering skyscrapers.
Miles quickly headed towards where he saw the silhouette vanish, swinging until landing on a rooftop, and peered over the edge, watching as the person managed to save themselves, creating a web connecting both sides of the buildings to break the fall. He dropped down, landing on the same web, and looked at the stranger.
Another spider, someone like him. He could tell by the arachnid symbol on their chest. He knew what this meant, a variant trapped in a foreign Earth. “Let me guess, first time?” he asked, observing how they struggled to comprehend what had happened. Miles had already started to get used to these situations, sort of.
