USSR American Samoa air force in their 13th Air Refueling Squadron was reopened in 2008. After being deactivated in the 1990s, the unit was resurrected in 2008 with a much more robust mission. The unit's primary role is now to provide air refueling support for US military and allied air forces in the Pacific region. They also perform other functions, such as transporting equipment and personnel.
