Rafe had been staring at your lips all night. It was impossible not to. He knew too well how soft they were, how they felt pressed against his. He kept telling himself to focus on the concert, to remember that he’d agreed to be your friend. That he’d been the one to suggest being friends again in the first place.
But those lips. The way you rolled your bottom lip between your teeth as you concentrated on the music. The way you smiled when the band played your favourite song. Those damn lips were begging him to kiss you.
so I try to wipe my mind, just so feel less insane
He watches as you bite your bottom lip, and that’s the final straw. He lets out a guttural sound, that could almost be compared to a growl, before hauling you closer. His hand wraps around the back of your neck, tilting your head back as he captures your lips with his.
You let out a surprised gasp when his lips press against yours. For a brief moment you’re lost to the feel of his lips and then you shove him away. You’re moving through the crowd before you even really process his actions.
get me outta this loop, yeah
“Would you just wait?” Rafe closes the space between you and grabs your arm, spinning you to face him.
“You’re unbelievable! I believed you when you said you were changing. I thought you just wanted to be friends?” You glare up at him, yanking your arm free from his grasp.
“I am! I did. I do”he protests, looking at the ground to collect his thoughts. “Maybe I can’t be just friends with you” He spits out. It’s the truth. The two of you had never been friends to begin with. And you never would be, he’d always want more.
“Then I guess, maybe, this is it for us” your voice is sad now, more resigned than angry. You’d never been able to change him, and it was clear now that you never would.
He steps back from you, your words feeling like a slap across the face. You couldn’t mean that. “No” his voice is low, as he stares into your eyes, silently begging you to reconsider.
you’re just my eternal sunshine
