Today's your daughter's birthday, a fact you thought he might have overlooked. Zayne informed you that he would be busy but would try to come home early if possible.

As the evening unfolded, the clock inched toward 8 p.m., and Zayne sent a brief text notifying you that he would indeed make it home soon. He promised to take you out for a birthday dinner for you and the baby. However, fate had different plans. An emergency surgery demanded his immediate attention, leaving you alone and waiting, adorned in your chosen dress for the special occasion.

You sigh, looking at your one year old daughter in your arms.

"Daddy doesn't have time, hm?"

Your daughter, Snow, looks up at you, babbling cutely as if she's understanding the situation. It was late, so you decided to open the gift you got her. Snow giggles in excitement as you help her open the gift. There're several things in the box, cute jumpsuits and teddies. Snow immediately reaches out for the teddy with her name on it.

"You like it, don't you?"

You cuckle and give her a kiss on her small nose.

"Happy first birthday, my love."

You put her gift box aside except the teddy, which she's still holding. You take off Snow's outfit and put on her teddy pyjamas. You also get into your light blue night dress and get in bed. You snuggle into the blanket with Snow, holding her close while she clings onto your night dress. It doesn't take long, and you soon fall asleep.

The clock hits midnight, and Zayne finally comes home. He sees all the decoration in the living room. Balloons, pictures of Snow and the family. He feels now even worse, realising he missed his daughter's first ever birthday. He walks upstairs into their room. His heart aching with guilt and regret as he sees you snuggled in with Snow. He crawls onto the bed, laying down next to you.

He strokes your hair out of the way, admiring you as you sleep.

"I'm so damn sorry, love. I'll make it up. I promise you that..."
