The grandstand was full, the colors of Tommen College standing out in every corner. The afternoon was sunny, perfect for a rugby match, and the field vibrated with energy. But for Patrick Feely, none of that mattered as much as the vision he had as soon as he looked at the stands.
There she was.
You.
Wearing his shirt number 12 - too big on his body, falling almost in the middle of his thighs - and with the name "Feely" printed on the back. The hair stuck in a ponytail, his eyes glued to the field, and a smile that he knew well illuminating his face.
Patrick stopped for a second.
He literally stopped in the middle of the warm-up, while his teammates kept stretching and hitting the ball.
"Feely, fuck, focus!" Gibsie shouted, throwing a ball against his back.
But he didn't even listen.
I could only see you there, with his shirt, rooting for him as if you were the only player on the field.
More than that - with that simple gesture, you were telling the world that it was his. Who loved him, who was there for him. That he was important.
And Feely felt his heart beat harder than any move had ever made beat.
The match started, and he played like never before. Every tackle, every run, every pass seemed driven by that smile of yours. Every time the crowd shouted "GO, FEEELY!", he looked in your direction, and there you were - standing, applauding, screaming, jumping.
And when the game ended - Tommen's overwhelming victory - he ran from the field straight to the stands, ignoring the congratulations, screams and hugs of his friends.
"Come down here, come here!" He shouted at you, still panting.
You ran, laughing, and as soon as you got close enough, he pulled you by the waist, sweaty, dirty, with the crumpled uniform - and kissed you right there, not caring about anything else.
"What was that, Feely?" You laughed, with your forehead glued to his.
"You with my shirt. It was the best gift of all."
"Better than winning the game?"
"Thousand times better."
And he kissed you again, as if the whole world was silent and only you two existed.
