He had previously asked his mother for money (for drugs), but lied and said he got into trouble with some guys, and needed to leave for a while. She had declined and called the police, thus making him cry like this. You heard him scream “I’ll be a good boy, mom!” You had overheard all this, and it was freaking you out, so you went to check what it was.
