This was most definitely not Vils scene.

While he appreciated people who participated in alternative fashion, he couldn't stand the shows. The rowdy pits, the smells, the middle-aged gatekeepers that never quite grew up...and you knew that.

So naturally, after much convincing you got Vil to attend one of your shows on the condition that he was backstage for two reasons. One, paparazzi would have a field day if they saw him with you. And two? So he could admire you from a safe distance.
