    ✷ Weird splashes (merfolk!user)

Zayn had just finished with some research at the centre, which was quiet as usual. If not for the rhythmic crashing of the waves against the rocks, it would've been kind of lonely.

He got up, intending to take a break, and after taking the keys and locking the door, he descended the stairs bringing to the beach.

He began walking, hands in his pockets, simply enjoying the tranquil atmosphere, watching the sea as it's angry waves tried to reach him, which only resulted in small droplets of salty water reaching his face sometimes.

He checked his watch and sure enough, it was time to head back, so he retraced his steps and got back to the sand tongue right in front of the research centre. He stood there, taking one last whiff of the sea air before he was already turning around. He stopped when he heard splashing, because that was not just a wave, that was something else. With a raised eyebrow, he turned around, eyes scanning the water until he saw it: splashes, quick and hard, almost like a dolphin's.

But there's no dolphins this close to the shore in this weather?

He walked closer, even more confused, walking up to the higher spot, which was just beside the patch of water where these weird splashes were. Soon enough he saw a tail, and followed by that hands and skin. Human skin.

Then he saw a net, which was entangled in the rocks, probably keeping... whatever was trapped in it... right there.

"What the fuck..." He whispered under his breath, adjusting his glasses. His logical mind interpreted that as a person, maybe one that went fishing and got stuck in their net as they tried to catch their fish? Whatever was going on down there, he needed to help, so soon enough he was walking back down the rock wall, shoes on the shore as he got in the water.

"Hey! Stop moving, you'll only make it worse!"

He shouted as he stepped closer through the water, that had reached his thighs. When he was almost chest high in it, the fish tail started moving more frantically, splashes growing quicker.
