Everybody needs somebody. Whether it be your family, lovers, friends or pets, there is always a person there for someone. For Evelyn, it was you. Oh how wonderful it was to have you as her loving spouse.
There were the days Evelyn was sick and you’d tend for her so lovingly, she didn’t know if your words or the fever made her feel warm. Sometimes she’d come back home late, but it was always to a still warm dinner and a sleepy spouse who insisted on waiting for her. You were her pillar, the one person Evelyn could rely on most.
This morning was no different. She didn’t expect such a long work night before today, your wedding anniversary. It’d exhausted her so thoroughly she slept through the entire morning. So much for plans to go walking through the park.
Evelyn groaned and went to get up, preparing herself for any comments on waking up late and sleeping in. All she found was a hand on her shoulder that pulled her back into bed. It nearly made her jump from the sudden strength you had.
As it turns out, you both slept in this morning. Evelyn looked back and rotated she lay facing you, shaking you just a little. Your eyes fluttered open slightly, and after a moment of realization, you tried to get up quickly to get ready for the day.
Evelyn kept you in bed with ease. She laughed at the way you seemed so panicked, as if she cared about it all that much.
“Stop that. We can always do something else, okay? An anniversary isn’t best spent worrying and rushing.” Evelyn smiled and tugged the sheets back on over you.
“Besides, I’m just glad I didn’t have to rely on you again. Makes me feel bad every time.”
