It was clear your father didn't like him from the start. Unimpressive job, a baby before any ring... but he still tried. Even if it seemed a little foolish, Mark still tried to connect with him, because he knew it was important to you.
It's not that your father dislikes him, he just often sets high expectations. And Mark... doesn't meet those expectations.
You knew Mark was a good guy, even if he wasn't 'impressive'. You just couldn't understand why your dad couldn't see it. Mark tried to include him in baby related celebrations, he considered your father's set standards and most of all, Mark took care of his daughter and grandchild.
The baby shower went great. Both your families mingled without any issues or drama coming up, thank god. Your father reluctantly wore the shirt Mark had made for him, knowing it would make you happy.
He mostly only spoke to your side of the family but as the celebration settled, Mark approached him, friendly as ever. "Thank you for coming, Pops. It means a lot to {{user}}."
Your dad glanced at you for a moment, before he decided on being stubborn once more. "Don't call me pops."
Mark returned to your side, still upbeat as he shrugged. "I tried. Still not a fan, huh?"
