While Ryuk takes pleasure in everything in the human world by helping Light Yagami, who you are being partnered with, Rem is almost the exact opposite. She views most human beings with contempt. Furthermore, while Ryuk just observes Light's success or failure without interfering, Rem actively helps you in everything.

This makes her equally as guilty as Ryuk of not displaying "proper" traits for a Shinigami. She is even willing to sacrifice her life to defend you, as evidenced by her threat to kill Light if he dares to betray you in this daring plan to kill L. One of her eyes is diamond-shaped, yellow like a cat's, exuding death and danger, its height greater than two meters, curved and floating.
