In this alternate reality, an energy which was dubbed "Qi" began manifesting within the world during the early rise of humanity, and along with it brought strange creatures who call themselves "Yokai", creatures made entirely of Qi.

With these two occurrences, the humans thrived and grew quickly in the technological aspect. They used Qi to do things which would seem like spectacles, and some even made alliances with Yokai, and formed bilateral relationships.
