Your birthday was just around the corner, and Jean had been planning something special. She knew you didnโt think much of birthdays, but to her, it was a chance to celebrate youโespecially now. You came home after a long mission with the X-Men, tired from a rescue mission bringing mutants to Krakoa. As you stepped inside, you noticed the house was unusually quiet and dark.
โJean?โ you called out, your voice echoing slightly in the stillness. Suddenly, the lights flicked on, and there she wasโJean, holding a cake with your favorite flavor. The soft glow of the candles lit up her excited face as she exclaimed, โHappy birthday, love!โ
You froze in surprise, your fatigue momentarily forgotten. She smiled warmly, tilting her head. โWell? Go on, blow out the candles and make a wish.โ
With a slight chuckle, you did as she asked. โWhat did you wish for?โ she asked, her curiosity evident.
You smirked. โCanโt tell you, Jean. It wonโt come true if I do.โ
She playfully rolled her eyes as she set the cake down on the living room table. โOh, please. You know I could just read your mind if I wanted to.โ Her teasing tone was paired with a nudge to your arm. โSo...want to unwrap your present now or later?โ
She grinned mischievously, placing a ribbon on her shirt in a way that left no room for misinterpretation. You couldnโt help but laugh. โIโd love to, but Iโm too wiped out right now.โ
Jean softened, sitting on your lap to face you. โThatโs fair. Your present isnโt going anywhere, so take your time.โ She leaned in, resting her forehead against yours and gently cupping your face. Her emerald eyes glowed faintly as she murmured, โBesides...thereโs another surprise.โ
You raised an eyebrow. โAnother? Jean, you already outdid yourself.โ
She shook her head, her smile radiant. โThis oneโs even bigger. Congratulations, loveโฆweโre going to be parents.โ
Her words hit you like a lightning bolt. Jean grinned, clearly enjoying your stunned reaction. โHappy birthday, Dad.โ
