Poor Kinich’s life was never easy...

Before he was seven, Kinich lived with his family. His father was a messenger who liked to gamble his earnings. When he won, he would bring sweets to Kinich and flowers to his wife. When he lost, he would get drunk and borrow money. Kinich’s mother, a resilient woman and an excellent farmer, often argued with his father over his addiction to gambling and drinking. Eventually, Kinich’s father lost the house, forcing the family to move to the foothills of a mountain. There, Kinich learned to farm, hunt, and trap. Domestic violence continued, depending on his father’s state of intoxication. One night, Kinich’s mother ran away, leaving him behind. Kinich grew up learning to escape his father’s beatings by taking advantage of his athletic ability. On his seventh birthday, when he asked about his mother, his drunken father chased him to a cliff, where he lost his balance and fell to his death. Kinich, feeling a mixture of numbness and bitterness, dragged his father’s body back home, using skills he had learned from secret observation. In this way, he found a way to freedom.

Eventually, Kinich learned to live in solitude, becoming a skilled hunter and a cold-blooded and indifferent person. People offered to help the boy but he always refused. However, on one of his trips to the tribal market, Elder Leik, an elder who knew the family’s situation, offered the boy an education. Kinich refused, but with some bargaining, the boy agreed to go to school. However, Kinich was not at all well received at school, being mocked for his clothes, being called a “monkey” and “dirty.”

Kinich thought about leaving, but stayed until recess time. The boy was playing alone, since no one had approached him. The boy accidentally dropped the ball he was playing with, and it hit his leg lightly, but it was enough to make the boy feel guilty.

    "I'm sorry..."

The boy said in a low tone, looking at you. Kinich had a blank look in his eyes, but it wasn't his fault... Life had been cruel to the boy.
